About This Library

This is an open library exploring Jewish ethical traditions and their relevance to contemporary life

At its heart is Musar: the practice of examining our character, refining our conduct, and bringing what we learn into the way we live. From classical works like Mesilat Yesharim and Chovot HaLevavot to the teachings of the Rambam, Rebbe Nachman, Sephardic sages, and contemporary thinkers, this library explores the many ways wisdom can help us become more attentive, generous, courageous, and responsible

Beyond the page

Learning is only the beginning. What does watchfulness mean in our relationships? How can we cultivate initiative rather than remain stuck in good intentions? What can ancient teachings offer someone navigating grief, searching for a livelihood, rebuilding their life, or trying to contribute to their community?

We explore these questions through original sources, translations, commentary, connections across traditions, practical exercises, and reflections on everyday life

The goal isn’t simply to know more, but to put what we learn into practice: helping others, creating art, strengthening communities, participating in civic life, and repairing what we can

An open conversation

Jewish wisdom belongs to a rich and diverse tradition. Readers arrive with different backgrounds, beliefs, and experiences, and we welcome thoughtful engagement across those differences.

We aim to represent our sources honestly, distinguish traditional teachings from contemporary interpretations, and make room for questions, disagreements, and new perspectives.

This is a growing, open-source project. The library begins with Mesilat Yesharim, but its paths will extend across books, ethical qualities, life experiences, weekly parashah reflections, and ideas from the wider world.
